Skip to the TL;DR if you don't want to read these details. So originally I was going to install Gentoo from the stage 3 iso. But that was really hard, and I have school and stuff. So I tried seeing how to install the Stage 4 iso because my experience with Arch and other operating systems is that once you figure out how to use them for awhile then installing them becomes easier. The problem is that I can't find any Stage 4 Gentoo tutorials. So I tried Sabayon, but it's bloated and portage. 8 ноя 2013 Помните об этом, когда ставите gentoo в продакшн. И вообще, я же не сказал «с gentoo livecd», с любого livecd можно грузиться. Hey r/Gentoo ! Just sharing a fun moment I just had . So here I was just willing to get rid my swap partition. Summons fdisk and recklessly just delete the swap live. fdisk nicely reminds me that the kernel hasn't taken this into consideration yet and will after reboot. Without questioning my method (I was so precautions first time I partitioned.) I just reboot. Am I not greeted with a warm kernel panic ! . whoops something, something, "root= \ .\ partition" gentoo@livecd ~ $ fdisk bash: fdisk: command not found gentoo@livecd ~ $ gparted bash: gparted: command not found gentoo@livecd. Ключевые слова: gentoo, livecd, cdrom, linux, boot, install, (найти похожие документы) From: Ляшков Павел Date: I'm having a very peculiar issue with a live USB for my father's PC. It is similar to what I had experienced whilst installing Linux on my own rig. When I boot linux off of usb, it is unable to see any of the usb storage devices. It does not matter if it is booted as UEFI from the install media that I have created, nor using the gentoo livecd which I have written to a memory stick which does work in my own PC. On my system there is an option for fixing usb boot with linux that makes 12 май 2008 Дистрибутив будем строить на базе Gentoo, т.к. он предоставляет очень гибкую систему заточки системы "под себя". Строиться LiveCD. I have an old white MacBook (Late 2007) with a dying CD drive and no OS. I'm trying to turn it into a media center box. It wouldn't play HD videos smoothly with the old Snow Leopard install that was on there, so I was going to try a clean Leopard (what it came with) install and then put linux on there if it still played rough in Leopard. But the CD drive is too shot to finish the osx install. And it won't even complete booting the simplest Gentoo livecd. Which means I need to either track. So I'm switching over to Gentoo full time and am trying to install Xorg so I can install gnome. I'm using a usb wifi adapter since my wifi card isn't working, and it's working fine in livecd. I did net-setup and can ping 8.8.8.8 just fine. But whenever I reboot and load up Gentoo, I get "connect: Network is unreachable". Does anyone know how to fix this? Edit - Forgot to mention that the wifi adapter doesn't show up in ifconfig in Gentoo either. I'm wondering if there's any interest in the Gentoo community for updates to the 'old' sysresccd based off Gentoo? Like probably many gentooers, I've used sysresccd for many years as my go-to for a live distro. Since the new versions moved to Arch, I downloaded the original build scripts for 5.3.2 and have succeeded at rebuilding the iso from scratch. If there's sufficient interest I'll look at updating packages to the current versions and releasing the iso somewhere. Hi Gentoo fans. I removed an old ide hdd from a laptop that doesn't work anymore. I installed it into another laptop and tried booting from dvd to copy files from that hdd. Gentoo livedvd iso image seems to be from 2016. Is there no newer? And why didn't it boot up? I burnt an Ubuntu iso on that same DVD-RW and it booted. Can you tell me what I did wrong? Best regards. Im trying to install gentoo but have some problems with uefi/gpt, i come from archlinux and i use my / and /boot/efi from a ssd and my /var and /home from my hd, i just create a two partitions in ssd for / and /boot/efi and other two for /var and /home in my hd, then just run grub-install /dev/sdb where my ssd boot partition is and everything works fine, but i do the same in gentoo install and get an error from grub that says unknown filesystem, how do i proceed to makes the boot works and keeps. I know that this might be a stretch, but i'm asking anyways: I have gotten my hands on an old Powerbook G4 i'm trying to revive. I'll be getting the charger today to see if it even still works. I'll be specing it up to max if it does (more Ram, HDD upgrade, new battery). From what i've read OS9 was the latest Mac OS supported. I'd be fine with that for nostalgia reasons, but i'd also like to try to get it to do some "productive" things. So Linux would be the obvious choice. Is there any curre. Can i install gentoo from livecd on my laptop over wireless? I know i probably shouldn't be installing gentoo because I am a newb when it comes to linux, but how can i setup my wireless on my livecd so that i can connect to the network on my laptop. Hello, I'm trying to install Lubuntu on an old emachines but if I try to boot from USB I get stuck on "Verifying DMI pool data" In the BIOS there is nothing, I can't change to legacy or UEFI or anything, I can only chose the boot order and some other useless settings. I even tried to install Windows XP again but on a new HDD because the old one is dying and same result. I tried with rufus with both MBR for BIOS or UEFI and GPT for UEFI in FAT32. Any idea? I want my Gentoo to look like live cd. I run kde plasma and it resembles nothing of live cd ( for an example, network manager) any hint would highly appreciated. Complete noob here, I've been using gentoo via virtualbox for the past few weeks as part of an OS course I am taking. This is completely idiotic, but I wasn't paying attention and forgot I was rooted when trying to move all files in a directory up a level and ended up moving part of my root. Obviously now its all fubar and I can't boot in. Not a huge deal outside of the pain in the ass of reinstalling, but I don't want to lose some of the code I wrote/saved. Is there any hope for fixing Hello, Reddit A friend asked me to post here for a second opinion, so I figured I'd explain my system issues. My Operating System is Gentoo GNU/Linux. The output of lspci is as follows: The output of hwinfo --short is as follows: The output of hwinfo is as follows: My issues, however, are utterly strange. Every time I boot my PC, I seem to have a 90% chance of running "Elementary OS" is a cosmetic improvement to Ubuntu which is a newbie's version of Debian. The TLDR; question is at the end. I would like to read the wisdom of the hivemind. A distro that is aesthetically beautiful (similar to my iMac) yet capable of any UI ("user interface" in MMORPG-speak, i.e. desktop). This distro would require little customization of the system and any required configuration would be clear-cut and easily accessed via a control panel. My perspective is that I can remain. I'm finally going to take the plunge on getting Gentoo running on my machine and I was wondering, is there anything you've discovered over the years about Gentoo that you dearly wish you'd known from the Start? I've been using Linux for some time now and I know I've discovered plenty of stuff over the years which I would have killed to know when I started. I understand much of this stuff can only really be learnt as you go along, but is there anything you wish you could
